The PC 6001 mkII SR was the evolution of the 6001 mkII and the last computer to use the 6001 name (the 6601 came after it). There are seven (!) Basic versions included in ROM so the computer is still compatible with the original 6001 and mkII. The main improvements over the original mkII were the addition of the Basic N66 mode (offers a 320×200 graphic mode in 4 colors) and the new N66SR-Basic which offers new text and a 640×200 graphics resolution with 15 colors. There is also a “Telopper” mode which I am not totally sure what is for and surprisingly a 6601 mode (I am also not sure what are the differences between the new N66Sr mode and the 6601 mode). Finally, there were also improvements on sound including an optional speech synthesizer.
The outputs are also similar to the mkII. Even though there is a connector that looks like a composite it did not work for me. I am using the RGB output and that works great.
The computer is a little larger than the mkII but very similar otherwise. The keyboard has the same great touch and the now black case is very solid. My computer does have a few scratches on the top part but nothing too bad. This is another very rare computer (hard to see even in Japanese auctions) so not a lot of info is available. Hopefuly I will be able to poke around and find more about it.
